When I first started Shadow and Shield, I’d sit at the dining room table, listen to lofi, and rewrite that one section one more time.

But before too long, I needed a mood. Something that captured the moments of the unspoken, the almost said, and choosing each other years before the words were spoken aloud.

I began leaning into longing—sweet and gentle. It makes sense. Yearning is my favorite kind of love story.
